Night Fever

The day I have been dreading happened on Sunday night, Angus got Shar Pei Fever. This was my first time as well.
How it started. We let Angus out at 7.45 ish and I noticed how his hocks had shrunk, yes, shrunk. After a word with the hubby we thought it was due to us not putting sudocream on the night before, the first time ever since we have had him.

11.10pm, Angus jumped off the sofa where he had been all night into his bed, no problems with that.

11.20 pm, let him out before we went to bed and called and called him, Rich had to turf him out, very strange as he usually gallops in. He was limping, still he had a wee and came in and straight to bed where he then started shaking. Oh dear, the first signs.

11.30pm, we took his temp and he was 39.1 degrees c. Rang Vet Phone who we have with the insurance and they said give it 24hours! I swiftly told them that it was fatal in 2.

11.35 pm, told rich to ring my sister and take Beau round for the night.

11.36 pm, rang the emergency vets and took him in.

11.45 pm, in the car with Angus on my lap, he sat perfectly still and yelped when Rich got him out.

12.10 am seen my the vet and a metacam injection was given as his temp was 41.

12.30 am, blood test was taken. Poor Angus had a muzzle on that was too small and they didn't have another, it just rested on his face but scrunched up his face so he couldn't see, poor thing growled at the vet, can't blame him though. I gave him cuddles and told him nice things in his ears. It took longer than thought as they couldn't find a vain in his arm so had to go in the neck. They found one and took a sample. After a long wait these were the results.  The vet said they were fine and normal, good news.

1.30 am, another temp check, 40.4, still high but going down. The vet said we could leave him there or stay, we stayed and waited for another hour. In that hour Angus had a drink and got comfy on his bed.

2.30 am, last temp check at 39.9, good news it's going down.

3.15amAngus came back home, looked for Beau and back to bed, one more temp check at 39.8 and cream on his face for his dry wrinkles and back in bed.

9.50am, up and in the vets, my local one this time, not pei friendly but they do try. A check over and another temp check along with metacam. and he is ready to go back to sleep, me too.

12am, last temp check before he gets some food with gravy and his metacam, he licked the bowl it was that good. Beau has been brill with him letting him have the sofa and not annoying him as much.

It's now been 3 days since and Angus is back to his normal self. At least I am more prepared next time.
